Well, any paint that specifies that it´s for wood. They generally have it written on the label; what materials the paints are for.... I generally use spray paint for wood for my cosplay props, because it doesn´t leave "brush stroke marks" (though you have to be careful of drips), but that might just be my bad painting skills for wood talking. Or it might have been my brushes that were the problem.

Zeruda will probably know best.

I have the knowledge but not the language :/

My dictionary says enamel paint or varnish paint. This paint is good for wood becasue wood is a material that keeps changing with temperatures and such. So you could say the paint is somewhat stretchy and it's more durable.

Is the furniture already painted? Or is it treated with a coat of varnish or anything?

sanding is a really good idea! you probably have to paint it with two coats to make it even. I'm currently painting my shelves and I'm on a third coat and I'm still unhappy  The paint is either too thik, or it dries too fast in my warm apartment, or that paint is just too old, I can't tell, but I'm getting really annyoed now, I never had this problem before

it's probably the warm appartment.

We had to re-paint a couple of our walls recenly and we turned the heater off so they would dry well. Well turning the heater OFF might not be a good idea, but it definately helps to paint in a cold area.

yeah, i tried to open the balcony door while painting this morning, but it didn't help, and it started snowing so i had to close it. I actually think a damp area would be even better, so i guess i should set up the table in the bathroom after i showered *lol*

@Zeruda: Lol at the mental image of someone showering, opening the curtain with a bathtowel around their body, and having to dodge a half-painted shelf...
