So, beside shutting down sites I use, how will this effect me if I'm not american?

"It's all in my head" I said, banging a piano
'I've not been so alone' I thought, 'since kicking in the womb'
I drank so much tea, I wrote my letters in kanji
Around the block I walked, and walked,
pretending you were with me...

SOPA and PIPA. xD Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act (Longer name: Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act.)

As I understand it, they want to be able to cencor material, and stop people from posting things that doesn't "belong" to them. Like, we can't repost a picture if we don't have copyright to it. Or something like that.
All 'cause of the glorious idea of copyright, like any idea is actually original, ha ha ha!

anti is a prefix stating you're against something.  SOPA is a law that is in the process of being voted on by our government.  It will censor our internet and it's said websites like Etsy, Flickr and Vimeo all will shut down if the bill becomes law.  And most other community type sites will be blocked from US use.  Because if the users post things that infringe the copyright laws the host site will get in trouble too.  I don't really know how it will effect other countries.

wait, wait.. whaaaat?? is this for real?? Somone actually suggested this to be a law in US?? Are you sure?? Doesn't sound like an Obama-thing to do ^^

But why would sites like etsy and flicker shut down? People use their own pictures on those sites?

But hey, Kyutie is the webmaster and she's not in US so we should be fine under german law XD Or at least us euaropean can still have fun XD

I still don't think anyone would think this is a good idea. The whole suggestion is kinda the most stupidest thing i have ever heard. Sharing is caring. that's my motto XD And like Evig said, nothing is original anymore anyway.

It doesn't matter if you're in the USA or not. If the copyright holders want to sue you, they will have the right to under US law.
Then they can send out a court order, and if you don't show up in that US court, you get into even more shiz.

the bill affects the whole world, not just Australia.
It's also taking away freedom, and privacy. They will be monitoring EVERYTHING you do.
Every lit bit of data you send and receive.

SOPA: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act#Arguments_against

We know that stealing intellectual copyright property is wrong, however there are serious implications this SOPA could have on the internet.

A whole lot of websites might have to shut down (even probably hosts too). Small sites - like this, blogs, communities and even larger sites like etsy, flickr, etc.

I signed an online petition about it. Going on websites yesterday was incredibly fun because people kept blacking things out in protest! I would hate it if SOPA passed!

MAF is registered under US, so hopefully these bills do not pass.
