Have you heard of "BubbleGoth"? it's a style created by Kerli, she says that she is trying to find the perfect balance between light and dark. Maby it will help you. :) I don't know much about it, but here is a link: ( Kerli Wiki) http://kerli.wikia.com/wiki/BubbleGoth#cite_note-0

I like Kerli's Bubblegoth, it's really neat and kind of hard to pin down.
But hey, I mix Sweet and Gothic together ALL THE TIME. I'm a Gothic Lolita, but most of the black pieces I own could easily be worn as Sweet. I think it really depends upon how you coordinate an outfit. I like to wear rosaries and other such types of Gothic accessories with dresses that *could* be sweet. Skip the frilly knee socks and go for tights. Wear chunky Mary-Janes instead of tea party shoes. Maybe an old-fashioned headdress with small bows instead of a giant one on your head.
Things like that..you know?

I've seen it done. It's sort of like a "grotesque-cute" motif. I've seen people wear black with pastels, and include dark, Hot Topic-esque accessories like eyeball bows (which you may have seen Kyary Pamyu Pamyu wear) or bat necklaces. Here's an example:

this is gothic? I have such a different view of what gothic looks like ^^' But non the less, her outfit is really cool :D

It's more inspired by Western gothic and emo styles than gothic lolita.

I was thinking of doing a mix of OTT sweet and gothic, and making it be a manic depressive themed outfit.

I'm a masterful mystical maniac.

I think any styles can be mixed together~ But I've seen some pretty examples of gothic sweet. Damn me for being away from my home computer at this moment TT But either way try what you like, and see if you enjoy the results.

hmm my sugestion would be to possibly Wear a more gothic dress... but soething more simplewith no print possibly with some sweet details like some pastel jewery or stockings or hair accessorys... but keep them simple and NOT OTT so i't won't end up looking too sweet/ bitter sweet. hope that was some help
