Gyaru as it sounds like means 'girl or gal' in Japanese.  The name started in the 70's and it originated from a brand.  The word 'gyaru' is normally associated with younger group whose image tends to be more rebellious, fashion oriented and childish.

How can you describe a typical gyaru look?
A Japanese friend of mine told me once that, they want to look like Mariah Carey, Beyonce and Paris Hilton.  An Japanese version of American celebrities.

Its so funny I didnt know that it was an attempt at being an amarican celebrity though that makes since. Ha if I dressed that way I would just look like a preppy girl or if I dressed hime gyaru it would just seem like a version of lolita. This is a cool post though!

I love love love oneegyaru I wish I could look like that. I'm often told that I have a round and youthful face and I don't think that would suit the sexy edge of the gal style.
I hope I'll get better with makeup so I can try this style
