Well, i dont know if 'I' made myself still stay alive and unharm, just luck.. but to protect myself i just dont go to places like there, try to not give personal information. I must be a little paranoiac, but i just stay distand. If it is something happens suddenly, to protect myself - i wouldnt go after it. If they want to steal my bag, i shouldnt force myself.

And i dont accept candy from strangers ;)
