I'm on Twitter, and there's a group that I follow called Fashion Quotes. They quote designers, obviously. But there was a quote on there the other day that got me to thinking. I don't remember it exactly, but it was something along the lines of this: Fashion is in a crisis, it is being ruined by too much skin.
What do you guys think about this? Do you agree? Or do you disagree?

It does seem that mainstream fashion goes for "the shorter the better". Its pratically impossible for me to buy a pair of shorts or a skirt that my @$$ doesn't hang out of. Girls' shirts seem to be more low cut and/or real tight these days too (I'm a corsette wearer so I can't say too much about that though).

That was my thought when I read that, too. I agree with the qute, definately. Like I told my sister, fashion used to be about the clothes, not what's underneath them.

Your wording made me laugh, but it's sad because it's true: What's the point of wearing clothes if you're gonna shopw so much skin? Might as well not wear anything and save money.

I agree with that. But even in mainstream fashion the fashionista types don't always dress like sluts. It's mostly the ghetto girls/teenage girls that are into the whole "as naked as you can get without actually being naked" thing. I feel so self concious in short-shorts tho, I feel like everyone can see my butt. I don't get why people would want that! I guess it's because mainstream fashion is about being sexy but.... I just don't get it.

I see what you're saying. But I don't think that having everything hanging out is sexy. I see it more like burlesque dance, you know, the hint and the mystery. Do you see what I'm saying? I think that the mystery is much more sexy than just blatent flashing.

There's a difference between using alot of skin to ancentuate a piece of clothing, and using alot of skin to make it look sexier. Sexier isn't nessecarily fashion, so yes, this whole new 'more skin, the better' IS ruining fashion... i cannot find a single pair of high waist shorts that aren't intended for my butt to hang out of at any store that sells them: P.

Yeah, I get that. Clothes aren't just huge bodysuits, they do show some amount of skin. It just when it becomes more about wearing what is essentially a cloth black bar over the neccesary parts, that's just too far. That's when I get annoyed. XD
