I know a problem for lots of girls with naturally curly hair is controlling frizz and really getting your curls to look their best. Luckily my daddy is a hair dresser and so I've been able to try lots of different products. So I thought I would give you some of my top favorites for curly hair products for any of you trying to tame your tresses. I should note that I don't know if these products would work well on black (african american) hair, I asked my friend what she uses and she just said motions. I've used the motions sheen spray on my wigs but know nothing of any sort of curl products... Anyways here is my list!

Favorite mousse:

This mousse is really light and doesn't weigh down your hair like some other types. It's really good if you need some extra hold.
Favorite booster:
This smells so good if you have hair that is loosely curled but you want to really bring it out this is awesome. It isn't too heavy so you can use it with other products no worries and it helps protect your hair from heat
Favorite overall product:

This is seriously all I need 90% of the time. Helps control frizz as well as define curls. And the best thing is you do NOT need a lot of this product. I use a half pump and just scrunch it in. Also you should be sure to start from the ends and go to the roots. I've seen a few bad reviews of this cream that say it is sticky and tangles their hair and leaves a white residue... These people are putting way too much in their hair. Half pump my friends, half pump.

So what do you use in your hair? What are your fav products?

I'm white, my hair has a pretty rough texture but it is not quite hispanic. I think it would definitely provide some hold and definition  but to what extent I can't say.
My dad goes down to Mexico pretty often to teach people how to cut hair. I will call him in the morning and find out what he uses while he's down there and let you know :)

Generally speaking people with curly hair should try and avoid using shampoo on their hair too often but use conditioner consistently.  Of course it depends on your hair type. My hair is a really really dry type, I haven't used shampoo on my hair for a really long time because it turns it into a dry fuzz ball for me. If you have trouble with dry frizzy hair and haven't been using shampoo you might need a heavier conditioner or to use an additional frizz control product.
As for wet or dry... which product are we talking about again? If conditioner usually you put it in while your hair is wet, of course there are some types you put in dry so just read the instructions. I leave in my conditioner for a few minutes and gently comb it through my hair with a wide tooth comb.

I have naturally curly hair, but since my hair is longer it's more like tight waves (or loose curls. Like you said, I can't shampoo my hair too often or else it will get TOO clean (it'll strip your hair of the oils it needs to stay soft!). I wash my hair at least every 2 days, and always use shampoo and conditioner when I do. Usually I use a thick, deep conditioner, but I never apply it close to the roots of my hair. That makes my hair look and feel greasy.
I use to also use spray-in conditioner (sprayed into your hair while it's still wet, and left on your hhair - not washed out), but I don't anymore. I really like Redken's products for curly/wavy hair. They smell great and work great!
