I'm the only lolita i know of in South East London (lolz)
And people stare at me for AGES in shopping centres or when im out or walking or on the bus.
I don't mind if they like double take or something, fair enough i dont expect them to think its normal. of course its not "normal" in the western world.
But the worst experience I had was when i went to kingston shopping centre with my two best friends who aren't Lolita.
I had my platform lace up white shoes on and blue dress with hearts on it (the one in my picture)
And i had people staring for ages and it was really uneasy. Some girl even said "what the eff is she wearing!"
I had comments like that such us "effin weirdo" "what the hell" or "FREAKKK"
It really knocked my confidence that day and i was really upset when i got home.
Usually i don't take notice but that day i was in a mood.
The best way to deal with nasty comments from strangers is just smile or wave or give them a asian face (like the tongue and droopy eye thing or the bunny ears with your fingers) They usually just laugh sarcastically or say nothing. trust me it makes you feel really good inside :D
And if people are staring shout " TAKE A PICTURE " or shout " KAWAIIIIIIIIIIII" in your highest pitch voice they usually look away
or just stare back really instensely
But so far i've had lovely comments and smiles from people :D some people are really really interested in what you're wearing.
also i know this isnt really a self confidence blow but, I've had to deal with REALLY bad experiences with men and there "interest" in my outfits
for instance there was one guy at the bus stop and he had been giving me the eye for a while i was literally crapping myself whilst on my phone updating my FB status
and when i got on the bus he came and sat opposit me and then he asked why i was wearing what i was. I was like its Lolita its a japanese fashion
he was like oh really i thought it was a book about an older man molesting a little girl
i was like D: yeah but this is a fashion style not a book.
then he was like you sure you just dont dress like a little girl to attract older men
i welled up with tears around that time and this woman asked me if i was OK as she had been watching the whole thing. I ended up getting off the bus three stops earlier and waiting for the next one
