I really dislike the way that people will judge another fashion style, without first looking into that style, and also looking at the styles they themselves like. For instance I was browsing the Lookbook forum when I came across a post called "Wtf...Lolita?!" and then after this came a whole lot of abuse towards Lolita and general Japanese fashion styles. This really bugged me after seeing the fashion that some of these girls wear or like, and there really is not much difference other than Lolita is more elegant and doll-like and pretty. A few comments that really annoyed me "I hate it.... it look like surreal.... real life is not like that... so it can't be a real style. " "I hate it. There's something very creepy about a grown woman who wants to look like a full on child. ""I hate it. It looks so immature. Of course breaking rules in fashion is acceptable, but it's crossing the line I think. They remind me of those plastic babydolls that I played with when I was a child... disturbing." Oh there was also someone who said "Not suitable for everyday wear"This really got me mad, as if you look at most of the girls on there, they are wearing lots of things generally not suitable for everyday wear! My reply to this thread:I adore the Lolita style however not owning any pieces yet, I do agree though that it reallydoes have to be done right, and a lot of the cosplayers ruin it :/ The Lolita styles exude elegance, unless they are overdone. Lolita is actually mainly worn by girls who have very little self-confidence to wear the same things as everyone else, due to the way they think they look or weight etc, and the Lolita style makes them feelPretty and gives them more confidence. I personally think you all are just looking at the first few images on google you can find, and not actually looking deeper into the nicer(my mind dictionary is failing) Lolita styles/pictures.I also don't see the difference between girls liking Lolita, and almost every on lookbook obsessing over some outrageous over the top avant garde designs. Also I don't see the difference between the way Lolita girls dress and i'm just thinking off the top of my head here, but the way Tavi dresses? She dresses very 'out there' the same way Lolita girls do.It's just that you guys see something new and totally different to the norm, that isn't to do with a designer, and you immediately hate it. But when you actually compare it to things you yourselves like, there isn't really a major difference? :/ And i'm sure some people get exactly the same reactions as Lolita's get because of their outfits. I'm sure many will get some "wtf's" to their outfits. Ha sorry about this outburst but it really annoys me when people will say a lot of horrid things about one certain style, without looking at some of the styles they like and thinking "oh.. i take that back"Mmm anyway yes i just thought I'd post about this because things like this really make me mad :/

I personally feel that girls who wear lolita, and people in general who wear clothing that is outside of that cultural norm are really brave and have the confidence to say "people may think I look like an eejit, but I think I'm fabulous!" That's how I feel. Although I agree that I feel more confident in my outfits than jeans and t-shirt. If only I could wear a tutu to work...

I totally agree with you :) I can't wait to start buying lolita pieces! I mean at first I'll be quite awkward because of the stares but I'm used to that anyway :) But I can't stand when all of these fashion bloggers 'hate on' (mental dictionary has just died) other fashions without knowing anything about them :/

I recently read that article and was disgusted by the rude comments and the general hatred towards lolita fashion and the girls who enjoy it. I don't think people have the right to treat others horribly just because they don't understand or accept something as simple as the clothes they wear. by disrespecting someone's sense of fashion to some girls your insulting who they are and how they express themselves. well, anyway that's my random blather-blather for the day

Go and look at the top hyped styles of all time on Lookbook and you will see the same thing again and again and again. Most people on there don't understand what fashion is and will never come out of their bubbles. Lolita is beautiful and elegant. What is the same t shirt and shorts compared to it?

yeah, i read it once. It made me so sad i couldn't even reply to the thread. I don't have to convince anyone or prove anything. I'm just being me, i don't have to care. They're the ones who are insecure looking all the same.

I agree that everything is the same on there, I'll look at the top hyped looks sometimes and the most boring of outfits will be on there, when i see many Lolita looks or 'different' looks and people have just ignored them :/

Me too i hate people so judgmental...people have different taste and style we need to learn how to respect each other thought and style...that's why we have freedom of expression...

Thes people obviously dont have the confidence to wear lolita themselves, why would they judge it so harshly otherwise? I agree with everyone else. PLUS the great thing about lolita is that most people can find a style to suit them anyway, its not always about dressing to (in that first posters words) "wanting to look like a child"
