I don't know about you guys but I'm very very tired of over hyped hollywood movies with crappy stories.... :P

However! I have began to seek for great movies from the east :) And so far I have really taken a liking to what I have seen! :D

Do you have any asian movies to recommend? Any favorite asian director?

So far Korea caught my heart with their amazing movies! I am particularly attached to Chan-Wook Park's I'm a cyborg but that's OK and Oldboy.

I've also taken a liking to Joon-ho Bong who surprised me with the Host and Mother. Really great movies!!

for some reason I can't think of any off the top of my head...but what did come to mind was a tv series. i don't know if you're into long epics (42 episodes long!), but this story was written by a famous asian author and is the first part of a series of 3 stories that all link together.

not sure how good the english subs are cuz i haven't checked it, but i watched it without and even though i only understand like 50% of basic mandarin (i speak cantonese >_>), i still thought it was amazing >_<

Soo if you're interested :] This is the 2003 version of The Legend of the Condor Heros

There was this one really good (Korean, I think?) East Asian movie where one of them was a vampire (not this Twilight crap). Do any of you remember the name?

I am really in love with Koizora. It's very touching! I cried for hole 45 minutes!!! Q___Q

At our japanese movie festival Nippon Connection ( I think it's the world biggest festivval for japanese films...) they showed great movies like Heaven's Door, No more cry, etc.

I also love Crows Zero and Crows Zero II. Shun Oguri is such ja great actor *____* and in this movie he looks so hot X___X I can't think about it!!

i also enjoyed the host! : D i'm a huge horror-movie fan, and i had some reaaally low expectations on that one, but i really liked it. such a good movie, so much fun to watch! X3

but hm. i don't know if i have a fav director from the lovely east. doubt i even have one from around here either, i have a weak name-memory :p but one of my favorite movies from asia is and will always be wild zero (2000) by tetsro takeuchi - even if i think there is a number of movies in the same genre that are better, both in story, scenes, effects (obviously :p) etc.. for example tetsuo the iron man (1986) by shinya tsukamoto *HEARTS* X33

i love the thought that movies like wild zero can even see the light, that movies can be made without being a million dollar project where the sole goal is to earn more than you put out - forcing it to be more mainstream. which is hard to oppose, both for the awsume directors of the east, as for the directors of the rest of the world with great new ideas i think.
