I don't believe in "Harajuku" style. To me it's just a place, a very fashionable place with lots of shopping opportunities, thus it's appeal for many alternative fashion wearers.
But to say Harajuku style implies that everyone in Harajuku is wearing that style and that's just probably not true. That means even the tourist in khaki shorts with the giant camera is in Harajuku fashion, lol.

Exactly ! Its not a style, its a place. Its like saying new york is one style or London is one style. Its a place were many people come to show off their style.

Agreed :/ I never really understood it when people say the term "harajuku style" it's a place with awesome fashion hehe and there is so many different types of fashion in harajuku that can't just be generalized in one term.

Agreed also! Harajuku is a place, the center of alternate fashion stores in Tokyo.
We know styles that can be found worn and sold in Harajuku: Various Lolita styles, Visual Kei, Goth, Punk, etc. And people cosplay there too, or go for some completely different styles like Grease style!
Every Sunday they have a big meet up on the bridge, as a chance for everyone to show off their fashions. Generally Japanese people would not wear that kind of stuff in public, ever, unless there were an event. So it's a set gathering point for them to actually do that without embarassment or public scorn.
So 'Harajuku style' is... the style of dressing in clothes you wouldn't normally wear? I don't think it's valid terminology, it just shows a lack of understanding...
