This has been a fascination for me since I was a teenager. I'm in love with the fabrics and vibrant colors.

I'm not sure what would qualify as "traditional dress" in my case, as I come from a few cultures (and have largely lost touch with them). So, I'll provide examples of various dresses that could be considered my family's traditional dress:

This is Irish. It's not the everyday Irish traditional dress, but from what I can tell nobody knows much about traditional Irish dress. Saffron yellow was apparently an important traditional color, and people wore their hair long and down. Something about fringed cloaks.

This is Mexican.

Sorry for not posting more, but it took a lot longer than I thought to research and find pictures, lol. (Btw, does anyone else think of lolita when they see Irish dancing clothes?)

Here's a traditional Japanese style that you may, or may not be familiar with...

甚平(Jinbei) is a summer coat, and pants that is worn by girls, boys, women and men.

Sorry to keep posting...I hope I don't irritate anyone with posting these...but, you should probably brace yourself for the longest post ever.

Anyways, here's another traditional Japanese fashion that I've forgotten to mention-not sure how it slipt my mind. This is the 束帯(Sokutai), which was worn back in early Japan by male courtiers (even the current emperor will wear this when a special occasion arises).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------

This is the traditional wear for the "old court dancers", also known as the 白拍子(Shirabyoshi).

They basically wear a red hakama, a hitoe, and a hat known as the Tate-eboshi-of course, this is not all of what they wear, but the list would be too long, and I'm guessing most people would skip reading it anyways, haha.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------

The next costume was worn by most archers, and you may have seen them before in some animes like Mononoke-Hime.

They wore a 褐衣(かつきぬ), "Katsu-kinu" with a hat known as the "kanmuri-crown".

I really like those!

"It's all in my head" I said, banging a piano
'I've not been so alone' I thought, 'since kicking in the womb'
I drank so much tea, I wrote my letters in kanji
Around the block I walked, and walked,
pretending you were with me...
