there are so many materials that we can use..
like.. coarse voile, non-iron georgette and shantung for its lovely sheen.. and also we can use lace with or w/out beads, organza, chiffon, .. its nice too ^^
other material suitable for making the "kebaya" bluse include muslin, silnk n geogette although these look less impressive. as the "kebaya" top looks rather transparent, it is usually worn over a camisole...

hbu? do u have any traditional clothing to share?

BACKGROUND!

from wiki:

Baro't saya is the national dress of the Philippines and is worn by women. The name is the contraction of the Tagalog words baro at saya, meaning "blouse and skirt".

This indigenous mode of dressing of the natives of the Philippines was influenced during the Spanish Colonizationof the archipelago. From the original, half-naked style, the bare uppertorso was gradually covered with a short-sleeved, collarless blousecalled "baro".[1] The whole look has evolved into a many-layered ensemble of the: kimona or inner shirt; the baro outershirt with its usually gauzy materials, fine embroidery and wide sleeves; the pañuelo or piano shawl, starched to achieve a raised look; the naguas or petticoat (in the song "Paruparong Bukid," for example, naguas de ojetes refers to petticoats decorated with eyelet patterns which are visible underneath the saya); the saya proper, laid over the starched petticoat and bunched at the back to mirror the polonaise which was in fashion during those times, sometimes fashionably as de cola or with a finely embroidered train; and the tapis - a wrap covering the upper half of the saya.

Some variations of the national women's dress are the Maria Clara, having an alampay or pañuelo, a large kerchief wrapped around the shoulders, and the more daring terno(which sometimes disposed of the pañuelo altogether), having thebutterfly sleeves and streamlined look which mirrored the then currenttastes and influences of American colonists. This was especiallypopularized by the former First Lady Imelda Marcos.

yeah i love kebaya most from the others traditional outfit in my country..  bcoz kebayas makes women look more sexy and elegant ^^ like our women said... kebayas have a mysterious magic to us. when we put it on, if the cut isnice and even if the pattern is simple, any dull gal looks gorgeous init. It gives a woman class and evokes awe. i like that in being awoman. Sexy, understated confidence!

we have many type of kebaya based group of ethnics/race;

My hometown is here..I was born in New York..I am just white girl with little background to boast...I have a very tiny bit of Russian in  me I don't even count, some German, and mostly Austrian blood. But nothing like you guys have...

I will research and find something to share--of myself I hope...

None of my cultural background is expressed in clothing here...but part of my family is orthodox Jewish and so wear somewhat traditional clothing in regard to religion...I will see what I can share with this, I suppose...

Actually, I still haven't anything to share about it in regard to religion. Some very Jewish neighborhoods have plenty of Hasidic-clothed people.  But my one side of the family that is religious, the males wear casual clothing but always wear a yar⋅mul⋅ke - noun Judaism. a skullcap worn, esp. during prayer and religious study, by Jewish males, esp. those adhering to Orthodox or Conservative tradition (dictionary.com definition), which is also called a "kippa."
The females of that side of my family wear normal clothing too--except that they must always wear long sleeves, at least right beyond the elbow, and long skirts. Some religious (hasidic) Jewish women wear something on their head too--a hat or scarf, and extremely religious ones shave their heads and wear wigs...but I don't think my aunt does, though she does wear hats. I don't see these family members much at all anymore though and never did much...  That's all I have. Uhm, enjoy? Heh..
