Hi, there's loads of lolita ladies here on MAF so I hope someone can help me out with this!

My 21st birthday is coming up in a couple of months and I've started preparations for my party. We're having a fancy dress theme which is based on Circus, Stage and Masquerade styles.... so idea is to dress as things like clowns, jesters, mimes, show girls, masqueraders in venetian masks, ring masters.... etc! Anyway, I've decided for my outfit I want to go in the style of Pierrot, the sad clown.

I decided that since is going to be my biggest birthday bash in a long time, that I wanted to make my outfit extra extra special! And so I decided this would be a great time to get my first Lolita dress! I've never done lolita before, I am more fruits/decora style, but I've always admired the style, and I thought a lolita style would really work with the theme of my party, being sort of Victorian, elegant and extravagant.

I've found a dress that I really like the look of, but because I am new to lolita style, I do not know if it is a good dress, if the quality is right or if it is good value for money. I can't really afford to go much higher a price than this but... I just want someone with knowledge to make an assessment.

So finally... my question is!! Is it a good lolita dress and is it worth buying? Its £44 (about $68) including shipping from China...

I really hope it is a good dress because I really like it, and the outfit I've designed for it I'm really happy about.... here's an overview of the other items I'm planning on getting to complete my outfit....

...with my make-up like the pierrot mask on the right........

This is all my attempt at doing pierrot in a cute but surreal lolita style... I hope you guys like my idea! Sorry for the long post... but if anyone could help me with the dress thing, I would be SOOOO grateful!!

Thanks and much love

Wow, i really like this idea! So original and fantastic! :D I'm actually disappointed i didn't thought of it first :P

Unfortunately I have never heard of this seller, so I cant't really give you any advice, however the picture is not familiar to me (which is a good thing, never trust a seller who use stolen pics) And they seem to use good lace too, witch also is a very good and reliable thing. So if I were you I'd totally give this one a shot ^^

I bet your costume will be the most magnificent at the party! :D

wow that's a great idea! A beautifull dress too. You'll probably need like 4 petticoats to get it to be as poofy as the picture though.

Oh, Kattoo mentioned something that's easy to forget. Petti! Four is a bit exaggerated :P I have ONE awesome petti and that's all you need. Or choose two almost awesome pettis ;) (if someone need four pettis they should get one good instead of four crappy :P)

People often trying to get away with cheap pettis to save money for expensive dresses, but it's not working that way. The petti carries your whole outfit so actually your petti is even more important than the dress :)

I agree with Zeruda, I haven't seen the picture of the dress before, so it doesn't seem to be stolen from another store. Just make sure you check their feedback, sometimes it seems like the seller is trustworthy, but that's not always the case.
Checking their customer's comments usually helps me decide too. I've had this happen to me in the past. so it's good to make sure it's genuine!

However the dress looks good quality in the picture, the lace seems nice and I don't see heaps of satin so It's a good choice! *especially for a first time lolita*
and as Kattoo mentionedm you will need a few layers of poof under this to give it the right shape

The brand doesn't matter, It's how you wear it!

I knew the lovely people on this website would be able to help me with this! Thanks for all the responses, this is fantaaaastic.

I'm glad to hear that the quality is fine... I know absolutely nothing about things such as lace and satin and such, haha. So thank you ladies for making a good assessment on the quality of the dress, I trust your knowledge and expertise and I'm going to go with it!

I'm also going to have a good look into the seller, and try and find out as much as I can, thanks to your advice. Its quite easy to go ahead and click the Buy button without thinking too much of the bad things that can happen... so thanks for reminding me. I've had one bad eBay experience in my life and I don't want it to happen again!

I'm glad you ladies like my idea for the party too :) I'm really excited because the type of town I live in, that kind of outfit would be considered very outrageous! But if you can't dress up to the max on your 21st birthday, when can you?!

So thank you thank you thank you everybody, you've all been really helpful and raised my confidence in going for this. I'm going to get all measured up this week, do my investigations into the seller, and if all is well I'm making that order.
